The Wabash Lights

The Wabash Lights is an interactive light installation located on the underside of the Wabash Avenue "L" tracks between Madison & Monroe — the first piece of accessible, open-source public art in Chicago. Join us for the great reveal and celebration of this one-of-a-kind, interactive light installation. RSVP to get a free Pretty Cool popsicle, courtesy of Pie.

Homecoming at The Arts Lawn

"Homecoming," a two-day activation on August 20-21 by Arts + Public Life, invites Washington Park neighbors to unwind on the Arts Lawn. There will be an interactive and “unique soundscape,” plus refreshments and card and board games. In addition to the sound sculpture by ebere agwuncha and Josué Esaú and resting seating built by students of our Design Apprenticeship Program II, we will fully activate the Arts Lawn with:

  • Sound activation by Ben Lamar Gay
  • Sound bath by Mecca Elevated
  • Chess games and instruction by Carmenita Peoples
  • Ice cream and Italian ice from Big Bros
  • Book giveaway from Call + Response Bookstore

Heart + Craft on Lake

Heart + Craft on Lake is a free community arts festival on August 21st, hosted by SkyART. There will live entertainment, an unveiling of a mural by artist Jake Troyi and SkyART youth, a free community meal, creative workshops and more in the 3400 block of West Lake Street.

A Celebration of Bronzeville Culture

The Bronzeville Murals Project is developing a series of murals celebrating the neighborhood at three central locations: the Boxville shipping container market, the Bronzeville Cookin’ culinary facility and The Forum. The art is activated through various events, including A Celebration of Bronzeville Culture on Aug. 21.

AfroDisco Social Hour Presents SPOTLIGHT (Closing Reception of This Heavenly Body)

Featuring the photography and installation work of award-winning imagist Seed Lynn, and organized by AfroDisco Social Hour co-founders Nnaemeka Ekwelum and Alexandria Eregbu, This Heavenly Body explores a political response to nationwide closures of social spaces that promote and facilitate Black gathering and community, like roller-skating rinks, bowling alleys and amusement parks.
